The Celtic Coffee House as it would have looked in the 1800's as the film location for a PBS movie

Step back in time as you walk through the door of this historic building. Originally, built in 1825, this beautiful gem was once the location of Frederick Bryant and Lysander Washburn's businesses. Cobblestone streets run along the front of this historic gem, which has been lovingly transformed into the Celtic Coffee House. The ancient New Bedford whaling community mimics the old fishing villages of Ireland, and many an Irish immigrant worked the old whaling vessels out of New Bedford. There are long Celtic roots that reach deep into New Bedford's history. They are a perfect fit.

Come in and sample our large variety of gourmet baked goods including; fresh muffins, bagels, and pastries. Enjoy our sandwiches, salads, and homemade soups, including our delicious Irish Stew. Come in, sit down, and treat yourself to our authentic Full Irish Breakfast or take our Original Irish Breakfast Sandwich to go. Warm yourself by the fire as you enjoy our inviting atmosphere and special roasted smooth organic coffees, a pot of authentic imported Irish Tea and Irish Raisin Scone or an Espresso, Latte, or Cappuccino.

May - Sept our full Ice cream Parlor is open next door stop by and try our 17 delicious flavors, frappes, sundaes, Celtic Coolers etc...History and Ice Cream!!

When Philip Dwane was renovating this Federal-Greek Revival beauty at 42-44 North Water St, hailed as one of the most photographed buildings in New Bedford, he chose to combine the two retail spaces.  Bryant and Washburn ran their businessess there side by side, nearly 300 years ago. However, instead of building the coffee house on one side and renting out the other side, Philip combined them creating one magical space, with ample seating and two bathrooms for his patrons.
Come enjoy an authentic Celtic experience.
